# Brand Identity and Corporate Design

Brand identity in healthcare is the visual and verbal system that makes an institution recognisable at every touchpoint. The logo is only one part; colour, typography, photographic language and usage rules do the real work.

An international patient sees your institution on the website, on social media, on in-hospital signage and on a discharge document. When those four disagree, trust erodes a little at each contact.

## Identity produces recognition, not claims

Brand work in health communication does not assert superiority. It produces recognition, consistency and legibility. Because the promotion regulation restricts claim-based narrative, the load carried by the visual system has grown.

A well-built identity conveys institutional seriousness without asserting a single word of it. The patient's sense that "this is an orderly place" comes largely from that consistency.

## It has to work across languages and channels

Identity cannot be built for Turkish alone. Typographic choice for non-Latin alphabets and layout logic for right-to-left languages such as Arabic must be considered from the start.

Each channel brings its own constraint too: the square frame of social media, legibility of in-hospital signage, black-and-white printing on document templates. The guideline resolves these in advance.

Components of the identity system

- Logo and usage variants (horizontal, vertical, single colour, small size)
- Colour system with accessible contrast pairings
- Typographic scale and multilingual typeface selection
- Photographic and visual language; image types that will not be used
- Document, presentation and in-hospital wayfinding templates
- Verbal identity: tone, preferred and avoided phrasing

## Regulation is written into the identity

One section of the brand guideline is a compliance heading in its own right: which phrasing cannot be used, which image type cannot be published, which title usage is restricted. Without it the guideline stays incomplete.

Everyone applying the identity — agency, printer, internal team — then works to the same boundary, and the later cost of withdrawing content never arises.

Your existing logo can stay

Identity work does not always mean changing the logo. In most institutions, keeping the existing mark and building the system around it raises recognition markedly.

### System, not logo

Recognition is carried by colour, typography and usage rules.

### Multilingual by design

Non-Latin alphabets and right-to-left layout are resolved upfront.

### Compliance section

The guideline also defines unusable phrasing and imagery.

2. 02**Positioning**What the institution says to which patient is put in writing.
3. 03**Visual system**Logo usage, colour, typography and image language are established.
4. 04**Templates**Digital, print and in-hospital templates are prepared.
5. 05**Guideline hand-over**The usage guideline is delivered with its compliance section.

*Frequently asked questions*

## What institutions ask most about this

### Do we have to change our logo?

No. In most institutions keeping the existing mark and building the system around it raises recognition markedly. A change only arises where a technical obstacle exists.

### How long does identity work take?

Six to ten weeks depending on scope. Template count and language count are the main drivers.

### Who will use the brand guideline?

Your internal team, agencies, printers and the software side. That is why it contains worked examples and prohibited uses alongside technical detail.

### Does it cover in-hospital signage?

Typographic and colour rules are provided for the wayfinding system. Production and installation are a separate implementation job.

### Will you change our brand name too?

Naming is a separate scope and requires a trademark check. It is planned separately on request.

### How does identity interact with health regulation?

The guideline's compliance section defines unusable phrasing and image types, so everyone applying the identity works to the same boundary.
